Da Good life
Partaking in Triple Plank and having the opportunity to create an award in tribute Martin Gallant was humbling. For the piece I chose to incorporate some wood specimens collected from Martin's house. He had a deep appreciation for the spalt and figure in maple too and we both shared a love for collecting unique specimens from our dear old friend Tim Reid.
When considering the award we wanted it go go to someone who embodied "Da Good Life". Martin was someone who lead by example and carved his own path in a world full of systems and challenges that can pull people away from a fulfilled life. He lived with so much energy, flair, style and a special way of being. One of his qualities we all loved most was his ability to tell stories. At RF, we believe story telling can be a superpower and Martin had mastered it. Martin had this ability down pat and was able to captivate you with his dynamism and put you in the present moment whenever he shared a story. It may been his broken English or his attitude either way his energy is infectious and it is clearly deeply ingrained into our snowboard community.
The Triple plank event is a testament to community and Martin was and will continue to be a part of it. Props to Nat and Fred for bringing Martin out in style this year and all that they do to resonate Martin's vibes. It seemed pretty clear to the organizers where the " Da Good life award" should go to JF Pelchat. When we look at flair, energy, contribution to the community and an ability to tell stories, JF was a clear choice. He showed up days early to dig the course and session with his girls and gang. He's constantly spreading good energy, not afraid to have some flair and is often shirtless partying hard and sharing Martin's vibrant expos hats.
Triple plank, thank you for this experience, for the opportunity to soak up the vibes of our snowboard community and to share it with the people we love most.
